Clinical Neuropsychologist
Dr. Carissa Aricola is a licensed clinical neuropsychologist who specializes in working with neurodiverse individuals across the lifespan. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Cell Biology and Neuroscience and Psychology from Rutgers University. She went on to obtain her Master’s and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from William Paterson University in New Jersey. During her graduate work, she completed neuropsychology focused practicum trainings at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, the Child Study Center at Hassenfield’s Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone in the Department of Neuropsychology and Learning Services, and NYU Langone Medical Center in the Department of Neurology and Epilepsy. She completed her predoctoral APA-accredited internship training at Cooper University Hospital in the Department of Behavioral Medicine. Her postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology was completed here at Neuropsychology and Counseling Associates with a concentration in pediatrics. Her dissertation was on transcranial magnetic stimulation, an evidence-based treatment for individuals with treatment resistant depression.
Throughout her work, Dr. Aricola has gained extensive knowledge and experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in both the private practice and hospital-based settings. She has a particular interest in working with those with neurodevelopmental conditions including ADHD, learning disorders, autism, and other developmental delays, as well as individuals with a complex medical history and trauma. In her assessments and treatment with clients, she takes a biopsychosocial and trauma-informed approach. Through her evaluations, she strives to help her clients and their families understand an individual’s strengths and weaknesses to support them in planning for lifelong success. She provides assessments to individuals as young as 4-years old through adulthood for Neuropsychological Assessments and 3-years old through adulthood for Autism Evaluations.
With respect to individual psychotherapy, she takes a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) approach and integrates other evidence-based treatments. She has previous experience as an Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapist, running social skills groups for children diagnosed with autism, implementing cognitive rehabilitation therapy, and conducting biofeedback therapy.
